The catalog states that an acceptance notification is issued within 3 business days after verification. This period does not begin when you submit your application; verification and outstanding documents may require additional time.

02 / Prepare your documents

Requirements for
your next degree.

Identify the degree level you want to enter. Then review the general documentation requirements and the instructions for the country where you studied.

Undergraduate

Associate’s and bachelor’s degrees

You must be 18 years of age or older and submit a high school diploma, GED, or associate’s degree.

Graduation must be documented through an official transcript, GED record, or certified home-school documentation, as applicable.

Graduate

Master’s degree

You need a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.

Include a 1–2 page résumé covering your education, work experience, skills, and achievements.

Graduate

Doctoral degree

You need a master’s degree from a recognized institution.

Include a 1–2 page résumé and complete the additional doctoral admission procedure. Ask your representative for details.

Documents for all degree levels

  • Admission application in Spanish or English.
  • A copy of one identification document: national ID, driver’s license, work permit, or passport.
  • A copy of your Social Security card, if applicable.
  • Copies of your diploma and transcript from your previous degree level.
  • Official academic transcripts, submitted according to the delivery instructions.
What is an official transcript?

An official transcript is the record of courses and grades issued by your institution.

Where did you complete your studies?

In the United States
Arrange for your previous institution to send your official transcript directly to HIU by email to admission.rep@hiuniversity.edu or by postal mail. The catalog requires official transcripts from every institution attended.
Outside the United States
If you studied outside the United States, you must submit a course-by-course evaluation of your academic documents. HIU accepts only evaluations performed by agencies that are members of NACES or AICE. Read the full guide for international studies below.

03 / International academic credentials

Make your studies understood
within the U.S. education system.

If your academic documents were issued outside the United States, HIU requires an independent evaluation to determine their academic equivalency.

What to request: a course-by-course evaluation

This report examines each course on your transcript. It allows HIU to review the equivalency of the academic level you attained and understand the subjects, credits, and grades earned.

LevelEquivalency of your degree or level of study

GradesGrades and grading scale used

How to complete this requirement

01

Confirm the instructions

Before paying, ask admissions which documents you must submit and how the report should be sent to HIU.

02

Choose an accepted agency

Choose an agency listed in the official NACES or AICE member directory.

03

Request the correct service

Request a course-by-course evaluation, not just a translation or general evaluation.

04

Prepare and submit your documents

Follow the agency’s and HIU’s instructions for the original transcript, English translation, and delivery of the final report.

Agencies accepted by HIU: NACES or AICE members only

Check that the agency is currently listed in one of the official directories before purchasing the service. Membership may change.

Translation and evaluation are different services

Translation presents your documents in English; evaluation determines their academic equivalency in the United States. Depending on your situation, you may need both. Applicants are responsible for evaluation and translation costs.

Third-party agency disclosure

Humboldt International University (“HIU”) is not responsible for the procedures, services, representations, commitments, fees, communications, or actions undertaken by any independent agency or representative in connection with an applicant.

Any agency assisting an applicant operates independently and is not authorized to make guarantees, waive University requirements, or bind HIU in any manner. All admission decisions, academic requirements, tuition and fees, and official University policies are determined solely by HIU.

Applicants remain responsible for verifying all information directly with the University and for ensuring that their applications and supporting documents are accurate, complete, and submitted by the applicable deadlines.

Your previous studies count

Already have
college credits?

You may request an evaluation during admissions. Acceptance depends on the previous institution, your grades, and course equivalency. Credit transfer is not automatic.

75%Up to this percentage for associate’s and bachelor’s degrees
50%Up to this percentage for master’s degrees
25%Up to this percentage for doctoral degrees

These are maximum percentages of total credits; program restrictions may apply. The catalog requires grades of A or B and official documentation. Submit your request during the admission process and confirm submission deadlines.

Documents and credit review
Submit your official transcript and, for international studies, a translation and a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member agency. If HIU cannot obtain your previous institution’s catalog, you must provide course descriptions. The academic decision is communicated after the evaluation. The catalog states that transcripts must be submitted within the first 30 days after the start of the first course; confirm the exact date with admissions. If credits are denied, you may submit a written appeal to the academic dean within one week of notification; a response is expected within 5 business days.

04 / Plan your investment

Understand the costs.
Make an informed decision.

These amounts in U.S. dollars are from the catalog provided, dated August 24, 2026. Request the total cost of your program and your payment plan in writing.

Tuition per academic credit
Associate’s and bachelor’s degrees$150 USD
Master’s degree$275 USD
Doctoral degree$435 USD

The total depends on your program’s credits, any transfer credits approved by HIU, and applicable fees.

Other fees to consider
Enrollment$100
Mastering e-Learning$150
Technology, per semester$30
Transfer credit evaluation$150
Graduation: diploma and official transcript$100

The enrollment fee is listed as nonrefundable, subject to exceptions in the cancellation policy. The transfer evaluation fee applies if you request that service. Other fees may apply depending on your situation.

Discuss your payment options

The catalog provides for payment plans by month, semester, or program, subject to an agreement with the finance office. Institutional discounts, when applicable, must be reflected in the enrollment agreement and do not apply to fees or other charges. Review the cancellation and refund terms before signing or paying.

05 / Frequently asked questions

Your questions
deserve answers.

If your situation needs an individual review, your representative can guide you on the next steps. Chat on WhatsApp with an admissions representative during business hours in Miami, Florida (U.S. Eastern Time). Outside those hours, you can leave a message.

Can I study entirely in Spanish?
HIU offers programs in Spanish and English. Before receiving the application form, confirm your program’s language of instruction. If Spanish is your native language, the catalog does not require documentation of Spanish proficiency; otherwise, you must demonstrate it. Also consider the language you will need in your profession. The catalog notes that studying in a language other than English may limit opportunities in positions that require English.
Do I need an English test?
If you choose a program in English and English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency through an option accepted by HIU: previous studies in English, credits completed in English with the required grade average, or an accepted test. Requirements vary by degree level. Ask admissions which test, version, and score apply to you before registering for an exam. The university also provides for an internal evaluation during Mastering e-Learning in the cases described in the catalog.
Can I start if I am missing a document?
HIU may grant provisional admission if the initial review indicates that you are likely to meet the requirements. With this status, you may participate only in noncredit orientation or preparation, such as Mastering e-Learning. You cannot begin credit-bearing courses until all requirements have been satisfied and verified. The catalog sets an 8-week deadline for outstanding documents but links it to the start of the first academic course. Ask admissions to confirm your applicable deadline in writing. Failure to meet it may result in revocation of provisional admission.
What is Mastering e-Learning?
It is a required 8-week orientation for new students, designed to develop the skills needed for online study. Final admission is confirmed after successful completion and after HIU verifies and processes all required documents.
Does online study mean there is no schedule?
Instruction is 100% online, with activities that may be synchronous or asynchronous. This does not mean there are no deadlines or scheduled meetings. Ask about the calendar, weekly time commitment, and schedule of the program you are interested in.
Will my credits or degree be accepted elsewhere?
HIU states that it is accredited by DEAC. However, acceptance of credits by another university depends on the receiving institution and is not guaranteed. If you intend to enter a regulated profession or use your degree in another country, check the requirements of the relevant authority or institution before enrolling.
Are scholarships or financial aid guaranteed?
This guide does not establish a guaranteed scholarship or financial aid award. The catalog describes institutional discounts and payment plans subject to conditions. Ask the finance office which options apply to your program and confirm their amount, duration, and terms in your agreement.
What if I need to cancel or withdraw?
The catalog includes specific cancellation, withdrawal, and refund policies. Any amount due depends on the date and applicable conditions. Ask about the procedure and review that section of the catalog before signing; submit cancellation requests through the channels specified by HIU.
What happens after acceptance?
After completing the signatures and activation of your record, you will receive a welcome email with instructions to activate your institutional account. If you do not receive it, check your spam folder and contact admissions. Final admission requires completion of Mastering e-Learning and document verification.
